Final Fantasy iPhone Trailer
February 13th, 2010 • Preview, RPG / Roleplaying, Video • No comments
Final Fantasy is coming to the iPhone and Square Enix have now released the first trailer for the Final Fantasy iPhone version. I can’t wait until the game will be available. It is the first real big RPG franchise for the iPhone and I hope other developers will follow and bring more big names from Nintendo, Sony and Co. to the iPhone.
Vampire Hunter (Manga) by Digital Manga Publishing
February 10th, 2010 • Comic, Manga / Anime • No comments
Vampire Hunter is another classic and very popular Manga series that has found its way to the iPhone, thanks to Digital Manga Publishing. The first volume has been released last year in April and until now a total of 11 issues (up to Volume 2 Issue 2) have been released.
The atmosphere and story of Vampire Hunter is dark and sinister. The story goes like this:
The year is 12,090 A.D., and what little is left of humanity has finally crawled out from the ashes of war and destruction. From the darkness of the fallout, mutants and a race of vampires known as the Nobility have spawned. They rule the weak with no remorse. Once bitten by a Nobility, one is cursed to become a member of the undead. Villagers cower in fear, hoping and praying for a savior to rid them of their undying nightmare. All they have to battle this danger is a different kind of danger – a Vampire Hunter.
Enter D – a lone, mysterious Vampire Hunter sought out by the desperate Doris Lang. Bitten by the vampire lord Count Lee, Doris is destined to her eternal fate… Can D deliver her from her curse and bring her to salvation, or will she forever be part of the unholy dead?
Ech issue of Vampire Hunter is 99 cents which is cheap but there is no “free 1st issue” like with many other of he iPhone Manga series where you can test out the fist issue for free. But again, nothing you can make wrong with 99 cents (the link below leads to the first issue on the app store, search for “Vampire Hunter” to find all other issues). And Vampire Hunter is popular for a reason, I would imagine if you like vampire stories, then it is pretty sure that you will like this one.
The presentaton is good just like with other Manga apps. We all know already what a great device the iPhone is for reading Mangas and the reading app used by Digital Manga Publishing is no exception. Recommended.

Amiga “Emulator” coming sooner than thought?
February 10th, 2010 • Emulation, News, Retro • No comments
Shortly after my post about a possible Amiga Forever emulator version for the iPhone comes the folowing news:
Manomio, the iPhone developer that gave us the C64 emulator already has annonuced that they created a system to the iPhone that is capable of running Amiga games and that they already secured a few licenses for games. This is great news and one thing that separets Manomio’s aproach a lot from other emulators: First of all, you will NOT be able to use any ROMs with this emulator. This is a ood thing because it means that you won’t have to jailbreak your iPhone for this app as it will probably be available on the app store. Also, the app will not work like a normal emulator, meaning that you star the emulator and then load ROMs into it. No, actually the emulator will be completely hidden and the games will be sold as individual apps on the app store. So you will start these games as normal as other games.
This of coursewill limit the available games to the ones where Manomio can get licenses for. It is rumoured that International Karate + will be one of the firt games available. That is great but my hop is that much more interesting (and modern in terms of graphics and sound) classics such as Turrican 2, Speedball, Gods, Gobliins, etc. will come to the app store. There are so many great games available for the Amiga system. I am an old Amiga 500 owner so I am really seeing forward to this noe. For the ones who don;t know, some Amiga classics are already available on the app store such as Rick Dangerous, Pinball Dreamnig (2), or Flashback.
Doom II RPG released to app store
February 10th, 2010 • News, RPG / Roleplaying, Video • No comments
Doom II RPG has been released for the iPhone without much prior promotion. This came pretty unexpected for everybody. The original Doom RPG and also Wolfenstein RPG have not much to do with the ego shooters Doom and Wolfenstein except that they share tha style, artwork, and characters with each other. Doom II RPG is available for 3.99 USD which is very decent. It is cheaper than past id Games releass and the Doom RPG series was always great fun. I haven’t played Doom II RPG yet but the first part was great.
A mysterious distress signal calls your team—two hardened Marines and a rookie scientist—to a Union Aerospace Corporation research facility on Earth’s Moon, but you were unprepared for what awaits you. The forces of Hell itself have taken hold of the station and its inhabitants! Zombies and demonic monsters roam the halls, killing all who cross their path. Your backup squad is dead. Mysterious scientists conspire against you. Even the facility’s AI cannot be trusted. You are being hunted from all sides. Cosplay World: Daily updated cosplay pics on your iPhone
February 7th, 2010 • Cosplay, Photos / Photo Books, Sexy / Erotic • No comments
Cosplay World is a photo book but it is a bit different from apps such as Cosplay: From the Heart of Otaku Culture in that it is not static. With Cosplay World you get daily updates of new pictures.
The pictures come with links to character images and videos. Also, the developers welcome picture submissions from people around the world. Characters from Japan are obviously favorited but they say all submissions will be considered. The app costs only 99 cents currently.
Rebirth of Fortune: Japanese RPG Strategy game
February 6th, 2010 • RPG / Roleplaying, Strategy, Video • No comments
Rebirth of Fortune, when looking at it first, looked just like Final Fantasy Tactics. It has a very similar style and is the same type of strategy game. And the developer also makes no secret of it, saying that the combat modes are borrowed from games such as Final Fantasy Tactics or Tactics Ogre. Everything is round based (no real-time RTS here) and the style of characters resembles Asian RPG games such as Final Fantasy or Dragon Quest.
Rebirth of Fortune has 50 stages (and there is a lite version available that lets you play ten of those). Goal in each of the stages is to kill all your enemies. If you have succeeded, you get rewarded and can then upgrade your units. I started playing the lite version for about 30 minutes and I gotta say from the first impression I like wgat I see. The character design is great, animations of the cute characters are smooth and detailed. It is a very pleasant game to look at and I would put it into the group of the good strategy games on the iPhone.
Sexy Tokyo Girls: Yoshiko Suenaga
February 6th, 2010 • Photos / Photo Books, Sexy / Erotic • No comments
The Sexy Tokyo Girls series of iPhone photobooks is normally a pretty safe bet for quality photos of cute Nippon models. And Yoshiko Suenaga is no exception. She is a very cute model and even though I still think 3.99 for this type of app is still too high, I can;t deny that the pictures are very tempting to buy this app!

Dramacon (Manga)
February 6th, 2010 • Comic, Manga / Anime • No comments
Dramacon, the popular Manga series is also available on the iPhone. Dramacon follows the popular system of making the first volume available for free as a teasr and then the following chapters you have to buy. Dramacon is by the way NOT a Japanese Manga as many think. It just looks like a Manga but was originally released in English, the creator being Svetlana Chmakova, a Russian woman and comic creator.
The story of Dramacon:
When Christie settles in the Artist Alley of her first ever anime convention, she only sees it as an opportunity to promote the comic she had started with her boyfriend. But conventions are never what you expect and soon the whirlwind of events sweeps Christie off her feet and changes her life. Who is the mysterious cosplayer that won’t even take off his sunglasses indoors?
Svetlana Chmakova is a Russian-born freelance artist who has drawn for how-to-draw-manga books, RPG manuals, toy designs, animation, book covers and illustrations. Her current works include two manga-style online comics: Chasing Rainbows and Night Silver.
